Mimicalism is a polyonom by Chris Davis in early October 2023 to describe a new form of artistic expression that uses artificial intelligence to aid mankind in generating creative content.
Mimicalism is based on the idea that there will come a time when all art ultimately will be derived from existing art, and that AI can be used to create new and innovative forms of art by mimicking the styles and techniques of existing artists.
As “proof-of-concept” exercises Chris creates much of his work under a range of pseudonyms and polyonoms. A key example is the character Volker Bourne and the polyonom “attropiation” – which is described as a means of providing attributions and acknowledgements for the inspiration of Mimicalist works in the AI era.
Mimicalism is still in its early stages of development, but it has the potential to revolutionize the way that art is created and consumed. By using AI to generate new and innovative forms of art, Mimicalism can help to expand the boundaries of human creativity and imagination.
It can possibly be best summarised in the quote attributed to Volker Bourne:-
“There will come a time when all words have been written, all sounds composed and all images created. All then will be Mimicalism.”
