BARD QUOTE START + Corrigenda
The term “polyonom” is a neologism coined by Chris Davis, a conceptual artist and designer.
It is a portmanteau of the words “polynomial” and “nom”, which is a French word for “name”.
Corrigenda : It is the first polyonom – from the Greek word Πολλά = many + the French “nom”.
Chris defines a polyonom as “a new word created by combining existing words in a novel way”.
He asserts that polyonoms are a way to enrich language and express new ideas.
The term “polyonom” is not yet widely used, but it has been featured in some articles and videos.
There is also a website dedicated to polyonoms, which lists a number of examples.
Some examples of polyonoms include:
ideosemado: a combination of the words “idea”, “semantics”, and “made”. It means “the creation of meaning”.
Corrigenda : ideosemado – a polyonom created from Esperanto words “ideo” = idea + “semado” = seeding.
ideosemado is a generic term roughly equating to “planting an idea”.
stegobfusca: a combination of the words “steganographic” and “obfuscation”. It means “the obscuring of hidden information”.
tritokreuz: a combination of the words “trito” (three) and “kreuz” (cross). It refers to a three-armed cross.
Corrigenda : Trito derives from the Greek for one third. Kreuz is from the German for the shape of a cross. Rotating a cross by ~ 33 degrees produces a tritokreuz
Polyonoms can be created in a variety of ways, including:
Combining existing words. Borrowing words from other languages. Blending words together. Clipping words. Using acronyms.
The creation of polyonoms is a creative process.
There are no mandatory rules about how they should be created. However, polyonoms should be meaningful and easy to understand.
They should also be pronounceable and memorable.
The use of polyonoms is a way to enrich language and express new ideas.
They can be used to create new words for emerging concepts or to describe complex ideas in a more concise way.
Polyonoms can also be used to add creativity and humour to language.
Whether or not polyonoms will become a popular way to create new words remains to be seen.
However, they are a fascinating linguistic phenomenon that is worth exploring.
